In the past 24 hours my biggest fears were confirmed. The barbaric actions of two has led to the safety of british Muslims being undermined.

I began recieving news of several incidents today. I learnt that a friends mother was verbally abused in the local supermarket, whilst another friend was screamed at on the bus, told to leave the country. My friends father was shoved aggressively infront of his young son whilst walking in the park, and a sister had her hijab and niqaab ripped off in Fulham. SubhanAllah, and to think, these were the few incidents I know of. My heart drops further knowing that hundreds more must have taken place across the country today.

After several hours of wallowing in hopelessness amd disdain I was reminded that this was inevitable. Our Prophet (saws) mentioned:”There will come a time when holding on to your Iman will be like holding on to hot coals” {Tirmidhi}. We must understand that this day was always going to come. The most we can do, as muslims in the twenty-first century, is put every ounce of our trust and faith in Allah swt, our ultimate protecter.

Dictators, oppressors, tyrants, and groups of hate filled individuals can try to persecute us as much as they want. They can plan to destroy and terrorise us to their hearts content, but we as an ummah must remember that Allah is the best of planners, and verily, he will not fail us. Without a doubt, we must take the necessary precautions to ensure our safety, but it is important not to fixate our minds on such matters for Allah and his decree will always be victorious.

When overwhelmed by sorrow and hardships, recall the story of the Army of Abraha, the pelting of stones at the Prophet (saws) at Taif, the endless tales of persecution endured by our beloved Rasool and the Sahaba’s. We are not the first to endure hardships, and we will not be the last. Let us draw stregnth from the remembrance of what those before us went through and how they triumphed.

We are the generations which have been chosen out of many to be trialed by these affiliations. Relish in the thought my brothers and sisters, of the reward that awaits us if we pass this test successfully. Imagine the noor that will radiate from us in the aakhirah.

May Allah swt make it easy for us to overcome the injustices enforced upon us, may He protect us from the wrath of Jahil individuals and may He grant us the sabr needed to overcome such grievances.
